Common questions
For Canada-only incorporation, Ownr and MyCorporation are cheaper and a fair choice, and Ownr also manages annual filings. Commenda is the better fit for a cross-border group: it runs Canadian corporate tax and GST/HST, provides a resident director where required, and manages Canada alongside entities in other countries with consolidation.
For federal (CBCA) and Alberta incorporation, at least 25% of directors must be resident Canadians. Ontario, BC, and Quebec have no residency requirement. Commenda provides a resident director where the rules require one.
Federal gives national name protection but adds the resident-director rule and extra-provincial registration. Provincial (Ontario, BC, Alberta, Quebec) is simpler if you operate in one province. Commenda sets up either and runs the compliance after.
Annual return, minute book upkeep, corporate tax (T2), GST/HST returns (and PST/QST where applicable), and payroll. Ownr manages the annual return and minute book; corporate tax and GST/HST are separate. Commenda handles all of it and consolidates with your other countries.
They price an incorporation. Commenda prices a managed Canada entity that is consolidated with your group. Compare total cost of ownership: incorporation plus accountant, resident director, T2 and GST/HST, transfer pricing, and your own coordination across countries.
