Writer

Most software companies don't publish a magazine. Commenda does, and we are now building the rest of our media operation. We're hiring a writer to shape how Commenda appears in public.

About Commenda

Commenda is the first AI-native global compliance platform. Companies use Commenda to incorporate, file taxes, and stay compliant in more than 70 countries, instead of piecing that work together from local law firms, point solutions, and spreadsheets. More than 500 companies use Commenda, including Razorpay, Remote, Pine Labs, and MPL. We're backed by Pelion, UIF, 1517, and Boost.

About Commenda Media

Commenda Media is our editorial arm. Today it is a print and digital magazine covering the people, technology, and policies that make global economic liberty operational, read by entrepreneurs, policymakers, tax attorneys, economists, and technologists around the world. Next, we plan to expand into our own data stories, podcasts, video, and reporting.

The role

You'll run the day-to-day of Commenda's thought leadership, content operations, and social presence. That means interviewing our founders, leaders, customers, and partners, and turning those conversations into writing people read and share. You'll own the content calendar and keep it publishing at scale, week after week. You'll also have room to build something new, like Commenda's guide to business travel, and to pitch ideas of your own. At first you'll work to a strategy set with the Head of Media. Over time, you'll grow toward owning it.

The role also comes with the opportunity to pitch and write for Commenda Media, our magazine, in the same pages as the economists and policy writers we commission. For the right person, this is a path from strong writer to recognized voice.

Editorial standards

Everything we publish should be worth someone's time, and we hold it to a high standard of quality, rigor, and craft. Our magazine has argued that for 88 percent of countries, regulation now costs exporters more than tariffs do. It is a real argument backed by evidence, on a live issue with real stakes for businesses and policymakers, which is why people share it. Our writing should meet that standard at every length. We are not interested in generic B2B content or stale company blog posts, such as the listicle, the AI-generated SEO guide, or the humblebrag announcement.

What you'll do

  • Interview Commenda's founders, leadership, customers, and partners, and turn those conversations into essays, posts, and stories.
  • Ghostwrite for leadership on LinkedIn and X, in voices that sound like them.
  • Build an SEO operation for global entity and tax compliance, as rigorous and fascinating as the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, with the help of AI.
  • Write social copy for every platform we publish on, suited to how each is read.
  • Maintain our social and content calendar, and publish at scale and on schedule.
  • Own the "Doing Business in X" country guides, publishing one a month, digital first and then print.
  • Propose new editorial formats, such as series, explainers, recurring columns, and creative ideas we haven't thought of yet.
  • Use AI to research, draft, and repurpose faster, while maintaining strict control of voice, judgment, and accuracy.
  • Measure what moved and adjust.

What we're looking for

This role is open to earlier-career writers as well as more experienced ones. We care more about talent, range, and appetite than about years of experience.

  • Published work that shows clarity, voice, and range.
  • A commitment to craft: deep research, rigorous sourcing, and prose that is precise and beautiful.
  • The ability to learn fast and explain clearly. You can get smart on transfer pricing in a day and explain it to a founder the next.
  • Good interviewing instincts: curiosity, preparation, and the right follow-up question.
  • An understanding of why some posts travel but most don't.
  • The organization to keep a calendar and hit it.
  • Genuine interest in international affairs, business, economics, entrepreneurship, and technology.
  • A desire to grow, and to take on responsibility as fast as you can handle it.

SEO experience, a background in journalism, policy, or economics writing, or an audience of your own on any platform is a plus.

What we believe

Free markets and global commerce built the modern world, and they are necessary for its continued growth and economic prosperity. You should share that conviction and want to make the case for it well, including to people who don't yet agree.

How we work

You'll report to the Head of Media, who runs both Commenda's content marketing and Commenda Media. You'll work closely with the editorial, design, and marketing teams. We move quickly and hold a high bar. The people who do well here want more responsibility and to build something they feel proud of owning.

The Head of Media is based in Austin, so Austin is preferred. We also favor candidates in Seattle, NYC, and SF, and will consider candidates from all locations.
